This highly entertaining hour long documentary reveals how Ray Kroc, a middle aged milkshake machine salesman transformed the Mac McDonald brothers burger restaurant into what was to become the world's most successful fast food chain. An impressive line-up of contributors tells the full dramatic story from 1948 to present day. How once it had conquered America, the franchise crossed the Atlantic, making its first appearance in Britain in 1974 and changing the face of our High Streets. The Cold War didn't prevent the chain from conquering Russia and beyond. We also analyse the backlash it experienced in the 90s as it was besieged by a string of controversies … from the fat content in its food, to the welfare of its animals, to the targeted advertising that enticed children to eat its products. Contributors include leading US fast food writers and experts who know the Kroc story inside out, and have experienced a burger in one of the very first McDonalds, the Californian obsessive fan who has his own museum stocked with over 35,000 McDonalds objects, William Sitwell, Master Chef judge and food writer who believes McDonalds revolutionized eating out in Britain, and Ben Williamson, head of international rights organizations PETA, who in 1974 as a schoolboy won a prize to open their flagship Hampstead restaurant, but then grew up to be one of their biggest adversaries.
