The film is executive produced by Westbrook and Donnell Beverly, who previously executive produced the Emmy® nominated docu-series, Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre, and is co-produced by Raynard Westbrook. PASSION PLAY is a self-portrait of a man whose story has often been written about and pedaled by pundits and commentators, but rarely – if ever – by the man himself. A late bloomer who didn’t start on his high school basketball team until his junior year, Westbrook has gone on to become one of the greatest point guards of all time, holding the career record for triple-double performances (184 and counting). A perennial All-Star and 2017 league MVP, Westbrook uses his emotions and “Why Not?” mentality to drive him to greatness. After 11 years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he entered the tumultuous 2019 season traded to the Houston Rockets, confronted by the challenges of COVID-19 and a yearning for social justice in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. On the court, Westbrook ended up in Washington, D.C. with the Wizards where he fueled the squad’s surprising run to the 2020 playoffs while setting the triple-double record. Now, Westbrook finds himself back in his native Los Angeles, playing with the Lakers and chasing the one accolade that has eluded him throughout his career, an NBA championship.
